- John Gore, b. in England, came from Waltham Abbey, Sussex, Eng., settled in Roxbury, as a freeman; was entered April 18, 1637; mentioned as a land owner in 1643, having 188 acres; a member of the artillery company in 1638; and for many years was town clerk and the records of Roxbury (now in the City Hall, Boston) are in the handwriting of himself and his son, John, who succeeded him.
