  	Thomas Peckham lived in Newport, R.I., and was a weaver. The name of his first wife is not known; his second wife was Hannah (Weeden) Clark, daughter of William Weeden and the widow of William Clark. After the death of Thomas Peckham in 17109, she married as her third husband Joseph Clarke of Westerly, R.I., brother of her first husband. Thomas Peckham was one of the original Proprietors of East Greenwich, R.I., in 1677, and was a Deputy from Newport to the General Assembly, which met 1708, may 4. Very little is known of the events of the life of Thomas, or of those of his son and namesake, Thomas Peckham, Junior. The Town records of Newport, where both of them resided, were placed on board of a vessel for safety during the Revolution, and the vessel was sunk for over a year in the rocky narrows known as "Hell Gate," in the East River or Sound. Although recovered later, the papers were so mutilated by their long immersion that many of them are undecipherable. His sons, Philip and Daniel, who removed from Newport to Westerly, had many descendants whose history is supported by both public and private records. These two lines will be found fairly well carried out in the succeeding generations of this work, but for the reason stated above, the record of the descendants of Thomas Peckham are not as complete as desirable, but as far as they go are correct.
