- Patience was the great granddaughter of Anthony Emory who came to America from Romsey Hants England, in 1635 and settled in Kittery, Maine. His daughter Rebecca Emory married first Robert Weymouth, second Thomas Sadler and third Daniel Eaton of Little Compton. A son of rebecca by the second marriage, Joseph Sadler, assumed his mother's maiden name when he ran away to sea. He married Elizabeth Washburne, daughter of Philip and Elizabeth (Irish) Washburne of Bridgewater, Mass.
In the year 1701 Richard Grinnell bought William Palmer for 100 pounds the 14th great lot in Little Compton containing 100 acres. Richard Grinnell's will, executed 9 Dec. 1723 and proved 20 July 1725: "To wife Patience one third of the movables and a third of the income of real estate for life. To son George 100 acres of land in Little Compton, two cows, 40 sheep and the old mare, he paying daughter Rebecca 50 pounds at age.' To son William the house and land that formerly belonged to my grandfather-in-law, Daniel Eaton. To son Richard house and land where I now dwell and 40 sheep, he paying daughters Patience, Ruth and Sarah 50 pounds each at age. To son Daniel the house and land he bought of Daniel Irish and other land and 40 sheep....He also owned two Negro slaves, Toby and Phillis. [1]
