Name |
Edward WINSLOW [1, 2] |
- He graduated 1736 from Harvard College and was the first Magistrate in the Plymouth Colony. Edward was the Registrar of the Probate Court and a Collector of His Majesty's Customs. "Because of his loyalty to England, he was deprived of his offices in 1775, but remained at Plymouth until Dec. 1781, when all his property was seized for debt. With his wife and daughters, he went to New York City where he took refuge with the British garrison, joining his son Edward who was serving there with the British army. Two years later, on 13 Aug. 1783, the family embarked for Halifax, Nova Scotia." (Note: The mansion he owned in Plymouth is now a museum of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.) [1]
