- John Neville, Knt., K.G., third son, was born about 1431, and was knighted by King Henry VI at greenwich on Christmas Day 1449. A quarrel with Sir Thomas Percy developed into a clan war throughout the Northern counties, and was a prelude to the Wars of the Roses. he married Isabel Ingoldisthorpe. They had one son and five daughters. When his brother Richard 'the King Maker' came into control of the country, he received advancement and many grants. He was summoned to Parliament on 23 May 1461 by writ directed 'Johanni Neville domino de Montague chivaler', whereby he is held to become Lord Montagu. He was created Marquess of Montagu on 25 mar 1470. John Neville, Marquess of Montagu, was slain with his brother Richard at Barnet 14 Apr 1471, buried with his brother, at Bisham Abbey, co. Berks.
