  Notes	Excerpt from "History and Genealogies of the Hammond Families in America Vol. 2": He was a successful farmer on the old homestead at Pittsford, to which he added another farm, but sold both and invested in the iron business at Brandon, Vt., where he met with financial reverses. He afterward lived at Crown Point, NY, but late in life removed to West Rosendale, Wis., where his sons had previously located. He was a very active, energetic man, but was too large hearted and self sacrificing to become very successful in business enterprises. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
