    • Services for Marvin Gene, 83, of Tyler, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Southern Oaks Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Craig officiating under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

      Mr. Wall passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, in Tyler. He was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Carthage to the late Emory and Ouida Boyd Wall. He has lived in Tyler most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Tyler Fire Department for over 40 years. He was the first firefighter in Tyler to receive his 40-year pin and received the 2009 Legends Award from the Tyler Fire Department. He was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Roe, and a son-in-law, Frank Gibbs.

      Marvin was deeply loved and respected by his family and many friends. Marvin dearly loved his wife of 62 years, Norma, along with his three children and extended family, his Roaring River fishing buddies, his Southern Oaks family and, above all, his God. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone. One of the greatest compliments ever paid to him was that he not only praised his God, but he walked and lived a godly life.

      Survivors include his wife, Norma Wall; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Susan Wall of Lindale; daughter, Karen Gibbs of Tyler; daughter and son-in-law, Karol and Steve Wolf of Flint; sister, Patsy Ross of Carthage; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

      Pallbearers will be Christopher Gravley, David Wolf, Bailey Averitt, Henry McClendon, Freddy Westphal and Fred Whisenhunt. Honorary pallbearers will be the retired members of the Tyler Fire Department.
