  • Name Marshall Dean MURPHY  [2
    • Marshall Dean Murphy, son of John Marshall and Vola (Watson) Murphy, was born at Elk City, OK, during a snow storm on September 27, 1941. On February 27, 2015, at the age of 73 years and 5 months, with his family by his bedside at the Vici Nursing Home, Marshall entered a place of green pastures, abundant hunting and fishing, a joyful reunion with family and friends, and peace. ?I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith? (2 Timothy 4:7)

Marshall grew up working on the family farm east of Leedey, OK. He was baptized as a youngster at the Rhea Baptist Church. He attended Leedey Public School. He worked for a time at an auto repair and paint shop in Clinton, OK. On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Patsy Patterson in Arnett, OK, a partnership lasting almost 52 years. Their home was blessed with two daughters, Leslie and Lacie.

Marshall enjoyed hunting and fishing and found his true calling in life with the help and encouragement of Roy Crawford and John Pickens, to become a government trapper. On October 1, 1963, he began his employment with the State of Oklahoma Wildlife Service Division and he never retired. Over the years the title has changed, but the mission was always the same, ?to control property damage done by wildlife?. It was a job he loved and enjoyed. With this job, the family moved from Leedey to Cheyenne, OK, Arapaho, OK, and Foss Lake, making life long friends at every location. They returned to make their home east of Leedey on the family homestead in 1973, following the retirement of his parents. Marshall and Pat worked side-by-side farming and ranching. Leslie and Lacie learned the values of hard work and determination set by their example of working together.

Marshall was a good steward of the land, took pride in his work, his family, his livestock and his dogs. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was always ready for a fishing or hunting adventure, a farm auction, a drive in the pasture, school events they were participating in, and even an occasional beauty pageant. He enjoyed going to rodeos and horse races, his morning visits and coffee drinking with his friends, family gatherings, a rousing game of pitch and he had a special fondness for buttermilk pie.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vola Murphy. Those remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Patsy of Leedey, OK; daughters Leslie Nebhut and husband Dennis of Vici, OK, and Lacie Woodson and husband Eric of Shattuck, OK; grandchildren Ashlee Shryock, Marshall Rylee Shryock, Justyce Woodson and Lyric Woodson; two aunts Johnie Rounds and Icie Mae Watson of Leedey, OK; sister-in-law Annie Rohrer and husband Donald of Vici, OK; a niece and nephew; treasured cousins and a host of friends near and far.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in the Leedey High School Auditorium. The family will have a private burial at the Rhea Cemetery. [1]
