Notes |
- Excerpt from "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register": He resided in Conway, where he was a member of the Committee on Correspondence and Inspection in 1777 and in the same year was a member of the committee to form a remonstrance to send to the General Court on account of calling in the money on the loan notes; also served as surveyor of highways in 1778, 1781 and 1783. He marched in August 1757 as a private to Capt. James Caldwell's company on the Alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry (Massachusetts Archives; Muster Rolls, vol. 95, p. 448). He appears to have been the Sergt. William Gates in Capt. Abel Dinsmore's company in 1777 in the American Revolution.
