    • He was a Quaker, and eminent for attracting the confidence of his brethren. He was deputy governor before 1676, in which year of trial he was chosen governor and again in 1686. James II, King of England, made him one of Andros' Council when he united the New England colonies. He served as governor again after the separation in 1696-97 and for the last time in 1700. [1]
