    Notes:

    Name:
Earl David Spackman, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 8, 2006. I was born to wonderful parents, David Henry and Jean Earl Spackman in Ogden, Utah on July 10, 1920. Later, I moved to Salt Lake City to register at Whittier grade school with older sister Berma and younger brother Kay. In 1937, I graduated from South High School and on graduation night, danced for the first time with Marjorie Hall and we both felt a spark of romance that continued throughout our dating years until our marriage in 1941 and 64 loving years, thereafter. Marge and I had five wonderful children: David (deceased)/Annette, Sydney/Richard Perry, Mitch/Karen, Marsha (deceased), Bryan/Crystal; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Fortunately, because all family members lived in the same area, frequent celebrations were held for every possible reason and occasion. Trips and cruises with family members were always fun and enjoyable. While working at the Southern Pacific Railroad, I received a temporary Occupational Deferment from World War II. In 1943, I entered the war and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service with the Ninth Air Force Service Command in Normandy. After the war, I worked at Union Pacific Railroad while attending the University of Utah. Later, I was employed by the "best corporation in America," Phillips Petroleum Co. for 37 years, the last 17 years as Administrative Supervisor at the Woods Cross refinery. As a member of the Crimson Club, I was a dedicated supporter of Ute football and basketball. In fact, I enjoyed participating in all sports. As an avid golfer, I always said, "no joy could equal teeing up a new Titleist on the number one tee at Bonneville Golf Course on Saturday mornings with friends who were golfing and bowling partners for more than 40 years." I received great enjoyment working in the yard at home, replanting every flower bed, each spring and decorating the yard and home for the holiday season. I was always happy at Christmas time to receive historical books and biographies of politicians and world leaders which I read every night in bed before falling to sleep. A grateful thanks to everyone in my wonderful family for providing everything possible to help me cope with this illness. It is at my request, no formal funeral services will be held. A memorial service in Earl's honor will be held Thursday, January 12 at 12:00 noon at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
