    Dr. Arthur Wallace Tucker Jr. of New Castle, N.H., a retired gynecologist and Harvard Medical School instructor, died April 13 at his home. He was 90.

    Born in Lynn, he was a resident of New Castle for many years.

    Dr. Tucker graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1937 and was an alumnus of Harvard Medical School class of 1941. He interned at the former Boston City Hospital and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the former Boston Lying-in Hospital and the former Free Hospital for Women in 1944.

    He went into private practice with offices in Brookline and at the Dedham Medical Associates in Dedham. He was appointed to the staff of the former Boston Lying-in Hospital, the former Free Hospital for Women and the Faulkner Hospital, and had privileges at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He also was a Harvard Medical School instructor in obstetrics and gynecology from 1946 to 1982. He retired with his wife to New Castle in 1977, but continued his gynecological practice in Boston until 1982.

    Dr. Tucker was a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Boston Obstetrical Society, the Aesculapian Club of Boston, the Dartmouth Alumni Association, the Harvard Alumni Association, the Propeller Club of Kittery, Maine, and the Men's Group of New Castle.

    He enjoyed summering with family and friends on Birch and the 6-Mile Islands at Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H. He was a fully certified member of the Power Squadron and spent time sailing down the coast of Maine and the islands of the Caribbean.

    Husband of the late Martha Ransom for 65 years, Dr. Tucker is survived by two daughters, Susan Tucker Davis of Lowville, N.Y., and Nancy Tucker Barnes of Morrisville, N.C.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, friends and colleagues.

    A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, Portsmouth, N.H.

    Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, New Castle.
