  1. 1.  Joseph Crane SEARS was born on 18 Dec 1792 in Ridgefield, Connecticut (son of Comfort SEARS and Eunice CRANE); died on 29 May 1857 in Millplain, Connecticut.

    Notes:

    Name:
    Joseph Sears lived in South East, New York, till 1827-8, when he removed to his father's place, remaining there till 1836, when he purchased the farm of his brother James in Millplain, Connecticut.

    The house that Herman R. Sears was born in, was also the birthplace of George Belden Sears.

    The old boundary line between Connecticut and New York passed through the house, and the room they were born in was on the New York Side. By a later survey the whole house is in Connecticut.

    Mr. Sears was a public-spirited man, and interested in all improvements.

    He was Rep. to State Leg. in 1835-6 and 1842.

    He was greatly beloved by all his neighbors, especially the young, was an active church member, often on committees, and in 1829 sent to the Presbytery.

    Joseph married Patty M. BARNUM on 26 Oct 1814. Patty was born on 9 Dec 1793 in South East, New York; died on 14 Nov 1815 in South East, New York; was buried in Old Cemetery, Milltown, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 2.  Comfort SEARS was born on 20 Mar 1751 in Ridgefield, Connecticut (son of James SEARS and Desire TOBEY); died on 24 Dec 1827 in Ridgebury, Connecticut.

    Notes:

    Name:
    Comfort Sears, like his father, was strict in the observance of the Sabbath, and required the same of his children, though he never united with the church.

    In February, 1793, his house took fire in the night, and was entirely destroyed. He turned out with only his shirt on, and got out the things; first of all a barrel of pork; in some way he injured his great toe, either by freezing or a bruise, and it was the cause of his death many years after.

    Comfort married Eunice CRANE on 18 Dec 1777. Eunice (daughter of Capt Joseph CRANE and Esther BELDEN) was born on 20 Nov 1754 in South East, New York; died on 23 Jan 1839. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
