    Excerpt from "One Thousand Years of Hubbard History": After His parents had settled in 1635 in Ipswich, he entered Harvard College and graduated, a Master of Arts, in a class of nine, the second Tuesday in August, 1642, in the first class ever graduated from an American college. He also studied medicine there, in conjunction with his other studies. May 18, 1653, he was made a freeman......July 4, 1656, he began to preach in Ipswich as the colleague of Mr. Thomas Cobbett. November 17, 1658, he was ordained minister and began then to make himself felt in the colony as a scholar, historian, and divine...........Many of his sermons have been printed. His last publication was entitled "Dying Testimony to the Order of the Churches," prepared jointly by himself and Mr. John Higginson of Salem. March 19, 1677, his "Indian Wars" received the approbation of the colonial censors and was soon published in Boston. Under the name of "Present State of New England" it was licensed to appear in London....

    Excerpt from "One Thousands years of Hubbard History": He was the founder and principal benefactor of the Ipswich Grammar School in 1636,....He was made freeman May 2, 1638, and was Deputy to the General Court for six years, between 1638-1646, and commissioned in 1651 by the General court to "marry people," not then a clergyman's prerogative: was commissioner of Salem Court, 1654-1656; Justice of the Quarterly Court in 1658; and "assistant" in 1659..... In 1659 he was on a committee of complaints "that the ministers suffer for want of support." He removed to Boston in 1652.......
