    KILLED BY A TRAIN

An Old man Attempts to Cross the Track in Front of a Moving Engine and Meets Death.
    (Special to the Courier-Journal)
ROCKY HILL STATION, KY., Sept. 27.--A most horrible accident happened at this place, at noon, today. The first section of train No. 11, going south, struck and mortally wounded Asa Crapo, a man eighty-four years old. he had returned here from Glasgow on passenger train No. 5, due here at 11:52 am, and met his horrible fate at exactly 12 o'clock m. He attempted to cross the railroad from the west side of the track only a few feet in advance of the train. When he had reached the center of the track, he was awakened to a sense of his horrible position by the whistle of the engine, but too late to save his life. he was struck by the side of the pilot on the engine and knocked 25 feet off the track, breaking his left hip and injuring him internally. he seemed to be oblivious of the presence of the train, and would have been instantly killed had it not have been for a young man named Robert Lawson, who was standing on the platform only a few feet from him. Lawson tried all in his power, and at the risk of his own life, to save the old man, but his brave efforts were useless. Lawson was also knocked several feet by the force with which Crapo was thrown again him, but was not injured, though it is perfectly marvelous how he was saved, as Crapo had a death-like grip on his hand. Crapo died at 2:10 this evening.
