    Age 92, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013. Jeanette was born April 15, 1921 in Fremont, MI to the late Bert & Cecilia (Spence) Hekhuis. She learned to play the guitar at the Hager School of Music and later taught electric guitar there. She later worked for the Walter A. Hahn & Co. as a bookkeeper and accountant. She finished her career as a writer and accountant for the Gladwin County Record. In 1945 she married Lyle Shafer and lived in Lansing. In 1960 they purchased land outside of Harrison and began building a new home. Lyle passed away on July 8, 1966. While living in Harrison, she enjoyed her CB Radio, hunting, fishing, bird watching and was a great outdoorsman. In 1988, she moved back to Lansing. Jeanette was known for her beautiful poetry and her works appeared in several publications. She was an active member and treasurer of the Lansing Poetry Club for many years and was an active member of the United Methodist Women of Faith United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her dear brother in law, Dale Jones, and her sister, Ruthie. Surviving is her loving sister, Shirley Jones, 4 nieces and nephews: David (Lynne) Jones, Cathy (Jerry) Scarborough, Judi Dadd and Phil (Becky) Jones and several loving great and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services are Wednesday at 1:00PM at Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw with Rev. Steve Ezop officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, MI. Visitation will begin Wednesday at 12:00PM. Condolences can be made at www.palmerbush.com
