    EX-MAYOR EATON SURPRISES MANY FRIENDS

Miss Alice Slosson, private secretary to the City Attorney, Alice surprises them and her mother by marriage--wedding tour to Owens Valley by Automobile.

Ex-mayor Fred Eaton was married yesterday noon to Miss Alice Slosson, who for three years has been private secretary to City Attorney, W.H. Mathews.

Mr. Eaton and Miss Slosson procured a license with considerable difficulty, for the Courthouse offices had already been closed for the day when they reached the doors.

After a good deal of persuasion, on the part of clerks and others, they got the necessary document, and were united by Justice Pierce, only a few attaches being witnesses.

Miss Slosson has lived for years with her mother, Mrs. A.V. Slosson, on Flower street, near First, and the first care of Mr. and Mrs. Eaton was to find her. They discovered her in one of the downtown department stores, where she had been waiting for her daughter, to accompany her on a shopping trip. The bride and groom broke the news as gently as possible.

Dodging friends who looked curiously at him, Mr. Eaton steered his small company to the California Club Annex for luncheon, afterward leaving town with his wife, in his new tourist car.

This sudden marriage has every element of romance, although both parties, as evidenced by the license, are past the first existing blush of youth, Eaton's age is stated at 50 years, while his wife's is 33.

The consummation of this love affair is the culmination of three years' acquaintance, although so quietly did the matter progress that neither family had the slightest inkling of serious intention. Mr. and mrs. Eaton have seen each other at infrequent intervals, although since his last visit to Owens Valley the water expert has been more frequently at Mrs. Slosson's house. At the very moment of the marriage, Mrs. Slosson was planing an extended vacation trip for her daughter.

Miss Slosson's record in city service has been an enviable one. She retired some little time ago from the City Attorney's office but on Mr. Matthews' urgent request for her return, she went back and helped him in the work of the office for a short time. he says she was indispensable in his heaviest work.

She is a handsome young woman of good figure -- a woman whose neat business suit was sufficiently set off by her own chance to become a wedding gown.
