Daniel Stewart married Martha Ann Tarkington on May 18, 1858 at the Tarkington farm near Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana. According to her obituary, he bought the William Hanneman drug store which then became the firm of Stewart & Morgan at 40 East Washington Street in Indianapolis.

Elkhart Daily Review (IN), Feb. 26, 1892:
"DEATH OF AN INDIANAPOLITAN
Indianapolis, Feb. 26 - Daniel Stewart, aged 68 years, a well-known wholesale druggist and ex-president of the National Druggist's association, died here Thursday morning."

Daniel Stewart, one of the oldest and most successful merchants in Indianapolis, died today. He was a cousin of the late Vice-President Hendricks.
