    Notes:

    Name:
Bartholomew Allerton was born in say 1550s, probably in the Essex/Suffolk border region, and died between 7 July 1601 and 8 June 1603, probably in East Bergholt, Suffolk. His parentage has not been ascertained. Given the rarity of the surname in Essex and Suffolk, it is entirely possible he may be closely related to Protestant martyr Ralph Allerton of Great Bentley, Essex, who was burned at the stake on 17 September 1555. Ralph Allerton stated in testimony that he went into Suffolk from Essex to buy corn for his poor wife and children, and later in the same testimony he mentions the widows of the congregations at Barfold, Dedham, and colchester. "Barfold" was a local pronunciation of Bergholt at the time.

Bartholomew first appears in the manorial records of Old Hall, East Bergholt, on 8 April 1583, and again in frankpledge at the April courts of 1584 through 1587. He relocated to Commandery Manor in East Bergholt and appears in the court rolls there in October 1586 through October 1590. he was associated with East Bergholt clothiers Roger Maptyde (senior and junior), and received 20 shilling bequests from each in their respective wills of 1593 and 1594.

Bartholomew married MARY, say in the early 1580s. She was born say in the mid-to late 1550s, and died sometime after 8 June 1603, when he is last enumerated on a recusant list. Bartholomew and Mary Allerton appear on the East Bergholt recusant lists, as Brownists, from 1597 through 1601, with widow Mary enumerated one last time in 1603.

Bartholomew married Mary ? in early 1580's. Mary died after 8 Jun 1603. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
