Name:
Rev. Edward Eells was pastor at Upper Houses installed and ordain on Sept. 6, 1738. Graduated from Harvard in 1733. He was also fellow of Yale Corporation 1761, chaplain for 1 season in the French and Indian War, clerk of the Council in the noted Wallingford Church Council of "Old Lights" vs. "New Lights" and published his account of it. He owned the land west of the old cemetery. He built a home on the northeast corner across from the cemetery. All this information was taken from the Middletown Upper Houses by Charles Collard Adams.

1. Maj Edward EELLS, Jr. was born on 11 Aug 1741 in Middletown, Middlesex Co., Connecticut ; died on 8 Dec 1787 in Cromwell, Middlesex Co., Connecticut; was buried in Old Burying Ground, Cromwell, Middlesex Co., Connecticut.
2. John EELLS was born on 20 Jul 1753; died on 3 Nov 1840.

Here Lies the body of ye Rev'd Nathaniel Eells Pastor of the Second Church of Chris in Scituate who died August ye 25th 1750 in the 73rd year of his age and in ye 47th of his ministry blessed are the dead which die in the Lord etc.
