    Herbert G. Jett, age 85, of Lamar, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Truman Healthcare Center, following a long illness.

    Herb was born January 4, 1930 in Bland, Missouri to Victor D. & Bessie (Yoakum) Jett. He graduated from High School in Bland in 1948 where he met and later married Roxy M. Fisher in 1951. She preceded him in death in 2003.

    Herb proudly served his country from 1950 to 1953 as a Sgt. Major in the Air Training Command of the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War. After the war, Herb worked in his hometown bank and started and owned an insurance company. He later moved to St. Louis where he attended the American Institute of Banking and worked in banks in St. Louis. In 1960, he was offered the opportunity to move to Owensville, MO, where a new bank was to be built and he would become an executive of the bank and assume ownership of an existing insurance company. In 1964, he moved to Lamar, MO where he was named president and board member of Barton County State Bank. In 1965, he was appointed a director of Central Mortgage BancShares, Inc., a holding company consisting of six Missouri banks and a Mortgage, Company in Springfield, MO. In 1976 he moved to Lee?s Summit, MO, where he was named president, chairman of the board and trust officer of Boatmen?s Bank. After 15 years, he retired and returned to Lamar, in 1992, ending a 39 year career in the field of banking. Herb was honored several times during his banking career, but the one he favored most, was in 1971 when the Federal Reserve featured him in their magazine ?Images? as one of Missouri?s outstanding bankers.

    Herb was also a member of several organizations, too numerous to mention. He was an ordained deacon of the Southern Baptist faith for over 50 years and a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Lamar.

    On June 5, 2004, he married Emily Sue (Aton) Garrett, who survives him along with one son Glen A. Jett, of Temple, Texas; two stepchildren, Joe Garrett of Nixa, MO and Constance Garrett of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by one sister Vera Thompson, of Bland, MO and sisters in-law, Wanda Jett of Bland, MO and Edrie Jett of Creve Coeur, MO, and many nephews, nieces and cousins

    In addition to his first wife, Herb was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Louie Jett and Delmar Jett; an infant sister, Naomi Jett.

    Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Lamar. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2015 at Daniel Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville, MO.
