    Notes:

    Name:
    William was a 'cofferer' (ie. treasurer) of King Henry VII. On 7 May 1498, William obtained a grant of the manors of Wormleighton and Fenny Compton, Warws. In 1506 he sold them to his wife's cousin John Spencer and purchased the manor of Hanwell in Banbury. Joan/Jane died in Hanwell 12 Feb. 1525/6 and was buried in Banbury church. The will of "Jane" Cope of Banbury, dated 20 Jan. 1525/6, proved 2 May 1526, mentions here desire to be buried in the Trinity Chapel in Banbury parish church at the foot of the tomb of her late husband William Cope. She also mentioned sons Anthony and John Cope and Anthony's son Edward.

    William married Joan/Jane SPENCER before 15 Sep 1496. Joan/Jane (daughter of John SPENCER and Anne EMPSON) was born in 1462; died on 12 Feb 1525/6 in Hanwell. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
