  1. 1.  Nathaniel DODGE was born on 3 Nov 1682 (son of Tristram DODGE and Dorcas DICKENS); died before 1756.

    Notes:

    Name:
    He bought 66 acres land in Lyme, Conn., 1743. will dated Oct. 10, 1753, gives everything to wife Margaret. He was dead in 1756, when his wife deeds 30 acres of the Lyme Land to her son William. In a work entitled, "Early records of the Dodge Family in America, " by R.R. Dodge this nathaniel is called Noah, and many other errors in names and dates occur in the book. This has greatly confused those who have endeavored to work the early generations with Mr. Dodge's book for a guide.

    Nathaniel married Margaret PULLING on 3 Mar 1706. Margaret was born on 3 Nov 1685. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    After the arrival of Tristram Dodge Sr from the north of England near the River Tweed to Block Island, Rhode Island, in 1661, his four sons (including this son, Tristram) followed him in 1667. These sons were named as "Freemen" in July, 1670.
    The first settlers to Block Island were Baptist.

    Will dated July 26, 1733, proved Block Island June 7, 1735, names wife Dorcas and following children.

    Tristram married Dorcas DICKENS on 7 Jan 1680. Dorcas was born in 1664; died on 18 Feb 1737; was buried in Island Cemetery, New Shoreham, Washington Co., Rhode Island. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Name:
    Born c.1663 to Nathaniel and Joan Dickens, Mrs. Dodge (nee Darkis/Dorcas Dickens) died in "the 74th year of her age". She was the widow of Tristram Dodge the younger, son and namesake of early Block Island settler Trustrum Dodge Sr., paterfamilias of the Dodge Family. Her husband had predeceased her three years earlier. The inscription on Mrs. Dodge's slate headstone (see below) identifies her as "Darkis", "ye widow of Trustrum Dodge".
