Name:
As a young man he served in the Civil War with Co. A, 1st Mich. Reg. of Engineers and was with Gen. Sherman in his march to the Sea. Upon discharge he settled in Shelby County, Mo, but later returned to jackson Co, Michigan, and in 1872, bought a farm near Benton Harbor. In 1887, he started operating a canning factory in Benton Harbor which has developed into one of the largest industries of its kind in the state. It is known as the Michigan Fruit Canners, Inc., with branches in several Michigan cities.
