    DANNEMORA: Doris H. Haley, 94, of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home and formerly of Rt. 374, Dannemora, died Tuesday December 15, 2009 at CVPH Medical Center. Doris was born on October 2, 1915 in Waterford, NY, daughter of Sydney E. and Florence A. (McCreedy) Hammersley. She graduated from Waterford High School as class valedictorian in 1932, and from Albany State College magna cum laude in 1936, with a major in Library Science and a double minor in History and English. From 1936 to 1941 she taught History and Algebra at Dannemora High School. She resigned in June 1941, after her marriage to her friend and soul mate, Wallace J. Haley of Dannemora. They had been married for 58 years before his death in 2000. From February 1942 to February 1943, Doris was employed as librarian at the Dannemora Free Library. She left then, due to World War II and her first pregnancy, returning to Waterford while her husband served in the Army in Europe. After the birth of her first child, she returned to Waterford High School in the fall in 1943, teaching 8th grade History and was the school librarian. Doris and Wallace returned to Dannemora in 1946, she returned to the Dannemora Free Library, where she remained for 42 years, retiring in 1987. Doris was the organist at the Dannemora Methodist Church from 1946 to 2006. When she became a resident of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in 2007, she continued playing the organ for the Protestant residents? service every Thursday, often being joined by former choir members from the church, family and friends. She was Superintendent of the Sunday School for 25 years until her retirement 1983. Doris established the church library in 1958. Doris spent her childhood summers with her family at their camp on Willsboro Point, and since 1956 at her and Wally?s camp at Chazy Lake. She enjoyed her family, her home and her church community. She was an avid reader and crossword solver. She was predeceased by her husband Wallace J. Haley, her parents, a sister Frances Child, five brothers-in-law, Earl B. Child, Russell A. Haley Sr., Leon Haley, Daniel Fitzgerald, Oswald ?Mike? Perry, three sisters-in-law, Liz Haley, Betty Fitzgerald, June Perry, one nephew, Russell A. Haley Jr. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Dorie and Thomas Sweeney of Beekmantown, two sons and daughters-in-law, Syd and Sue Haley of Cadyville, Wally and Karen Haley of Waterford, NY; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Sweeney, Melanie and Trevor Patric, Jeremiah Haley, Graham and Scott Haley, one great-granddaughter, Trinity Patric. A sister-in-law Lucille Haley of Dannemora, and several nieces and nephews also survive her. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home 69 Court St. Plattsburgh. A funeral service will held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Dannemora Church. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery in Saranac in the spring. Donations may be made to the Dannemora Methodist Church or the Dannemora Free Library, or the Alzheimer?s Association.
