    Henry was the child of Frank and Ethel Reed Armstrong and was born in Alberta Canada. They moved to the Kelso/Longview area thinking that the difference in weather would be better for her health. He met and married Irma and raised two sons, Donald & Wayne.

    Longtime local resident Henry Cyril Armstrong, 89, of Longview, died May 5, 2002, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Frank and Ethel (Reed) Armstrong and moved to the local area in 1920. Mr. Armstrong was the purchasing agent for Pacific Paperboard Co., which was destroyed by fire in the early 1950s. He later owned and operated Washington Pulp and Timber for many years, until it termination in 1973. He was a Navy veteran, a lifetime member of the Kelso Elks Lodge, a charter member of the Longview Country Club, past commodore of the Longview Yacht Club, and a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge and Columbia River Shrine Club. His wife of 64 years, Irma Pauline Armstrong, died Jan. 15, 2000. He also was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Armstrong during the Vietnam War in 1967; a brother, James Armstrong; and a sister, LaVern Byrum. Survivors include a son, Donald F. Armstrong of Alameda, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held. Private interment will take place at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge.

    Find A Grave: Frank was born in Salt Lake City Utah, his parents were Obadiah Armstrong and Hannah Mariah Deming. They went by wagon to settle Cardston Alberta Canada. When Ethel Reed came to Canada to visit an Aunt they met and were married shortly there after. Ethel had been married before and had 2 children, James Emmett & Ethel LaVerne. They lived out on a farm and when LaVerne got old enough to go to school they would move into town for the winter so she could go to school. LaVerne's 1st year of school they sent her into town to live with other family so she could go to school. But Ethel missed her so much that after that they all moved into town during the school yr. Francis's family moved down to Regby Idaho but Frank stayed. After his wife Ethel's health started going down hill they moved to Washington thinking the change in weather would be a help. They moved 1st to Spokane WA but Frank soon found work in the growing town of Longview WA and he moved his family to Kelso WA.

    Ethel Reed Armstrong was born 11 Jun 1889 in St David AZ. She lived on a ranch and in her later years she loved telling her grandchildren stories of growing up on the ranch and riding horses. Her parents were Herber Cortizs Reed and Louisa Sheen. Ethel married Lyle Vernon Tilton and had 2 children Ethel LaVerne and James Emmit Tilton/Armstrong. They divorced and Ethel went to Alberta Canada and met her 2nd husband Francis Armstrong and they married 11 Jan 1912. They had one child Henry C Armstrong. They stayed in Canada for several years but moved to Spokane Washington in hopes that the weather would be better for Ethel's health. They then moved to Kelso WA. Ethel or grandma was a wonderful grandmother and we all loved her. She loved her grandchildren and was a true friend to them. She was known for her knitting and crocheting skills. All grandchilden got a knitted blanket as a child and a crocheted table cloth for their wedding. She was greatly loved.
