The Slason Genealogy (note 1), 16-7 calls him a 2nd cousin, son of one Josiah Slason who was in turn called son of George's presumed brother Thomas. However since this proposal requires several moves back and forth between Cape Cod and the southwestern Conn. area without any proof at all, this relationship, although often repeated in print and on the Internet, is probably a complete fabrication. It is much ore likely tat Joseph was a 1st cousin, probably a previously unnoticed son of Eleazer Slason of Stamford and Bedford, a relationship still remaining to be proved.

Joseph married Mary Elizabeth SLAWSON on 25 Dec 1707 in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Mary (daughter of John SLAWSON, Sr and Elizabeth BENEDICT) was born on 21 Apr 1680 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA; died after 1707. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

There is so much speculation on who Josiah SLAWSON really is. There are some reliable sources that list both spelling of Josiah's last name. The WILLIAMSON genealogy states that their daughter, Mary, married Josiah SLAWSON. But no further information is given as what happen to them.

The CLOSSON genealogy states that Josiah CLOSSON, is the husband of Mary WILLIAMSON. However, they go further by listing the names of their children and their descendants.

I will be leaving a wife for Josiah as Mary WILLIAMSON, but not the Mary WILLIAMSON, the daughter of Timothy WILLIAMSON and Mary HOWLAND.

Josiah married Mary WILLIAMSON on 9 Mar 1678/79 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

I do not believe that Mary WILLIAMSON, daughter of Timothy WILLIAMSON and Mary HOWLAND, is the wife of Josiah. I am not even sure that a Josiah SLAWSON even exist. I believe our Mary WILLIAMSON married Josiah CLOSSON.

I am, however, leaving Josiah SLAWSON as is, until further research can prove otherwise.
