From "History of Winnebago County, Wisconsin": John R. Padelford built a pre-emption shanty on the northwast quarter of Section 14, in February, 1846, and is therefore, one of the very earliest settlers in the town. In the spring of 1847, he moved his family to this place, where he has since resided. He helped to open the first roads in the town, and took a prominent part in its early organization and improvement. His fine farm is among the best in the county, and he ranks as one of its prominent farmers.

John married Sarah A. JONES. Sarah was born on 06 Dec 1820 in Schoharie Co., New York; died on 05 Jun 1887 in Algoma, Wisc.; was buried in Omro Union Cemetery, Omro, Winnebago Co., Wisc. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Another Old Settler Dead

The wife of J.R. Padelford of Algoma died June 5. The funeral will be held at the Juction Hall, town of Omro, Tuesday at two o'clock. Rev. G.A. Cressey will officiate.
