    Name:
    George H Henderson, Jr
    87 years
George H. ("Herb") Henderson, Jr., formerly a resident of both Boise and Nampa, passed away on June 15, 2016 in Winter Haven, Florida, at age 87. Herb was born in Anaconda, Montana on January 26, 1929. After serving with the US Navy Sea Bees during the Korean War, he spent most of his career in the mining industry, starting out at the Berkeley Pit in Butte, Montana, and went on, with his wife Elizabeth (Betty) to live and work in San Juan, Peru, Salt Lake City, Utah, Vancouver, Fernie and Edmonton Canada, Centralia, Washington, and in Boise as part of Morrison-Knudson's Mining Group. His final off-shore assignment was as mine manager of the world's largest surface coal mine in Ping Shou, China. While continuing his mining career, he also pursued a college education, earning a BS, MA, and PhD in Business Administration from the University of California.
Together Herb and Betty had three amazing daughters, Sandy, Judy, and Cindy. In 1996, Betty passed away after 49 years of marriage, and Herb married Boise native Norma Harvey with whom he spent the next 20 years and shared the joy of being grandparents to Herb's six wonderful grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Together they lived in Boise, where Herb worked for the Idaho Department of Commerce, International Business Division, then on retirement moved to Nampa and then Olympia WA before their final move to Florida in 2014 where Herb lived his dream of "never seeing another damned snowflake." During all his many years of "retirement," Herb continued to actively consult, research and prospect mine developments, and was a partner in the consulting group Golden Resources in Boise.
Throughout his life, one of Herb's passions was writing, and he wrote several novels and a how-to book on gold prospecting called "Strike it Rich, Tales of a Bygone Era", published through Amazon.
Herb had a larger-than-life personality with a kind, loving heart. He was well known for his warm voice, hearty laugh, and funny stories. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards and visiting casinos, as well as sing-alongs with family and friends and playing the guitar. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and member of the Scottish and York Rites and Shrine in Anaconda, Montana for more than 50 years.

Herb is survived by his wife, Norma, of Davenport, FL, sister Carole Hull of Great Falls, Montana, and daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Henderson and Larry Mylnechuk of Missoula, MT, Judy and Rick Burchett of Olympia, WA, and Cindy and Mike Kerr of Davenport, FL.
Herb will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends will place his ashes at rest with military honors at a graveside service on Wednesday, July 20, at 10 am at the Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise. Funeral arrangements have been made by Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
