Rickard Francis Donovan was known as "Frank".

(Phillipsburg Kansas Newspaper in about 1905): Frank Donovan of Sumner township was appointed treasurer by the county commissioners last Friday. In the appointment of a treasurer, Mr. Bogart was in favor of C.F. Barber of Kirwin; Joe Brown was holding out for Mrs. Bowman and backed by his friends of this city; and the Republican Mr. Grewel, was in favor of Frank Donovan as long as a Democrat has to be appoijted as the treasurer of this county.
In the final issue Mr. Grewel named thetreasurer and Mr. Bogart threw over his frinds in Kirwin to help appoint Mr. Grewel's man. Brown still held out for his applicant.
Mr. Donovan is the son of Michael Donovan, who formerly lived in this county but now resides in Norton County. He is about 35 years of age and one of the most highly respected men in Sumner Township. He is a very bright and intelligent gentleman with a high standard of morals of fusion. It is thought that Mr. Donovan will be a very capable man and will be successful in filling out the unexpired term of Mr. Bowman. (He was eleced thereafte to two terms as the Phillips County Treasurer.)
He was also treasurer of the township, and helped build Sacred Heart Church, Bloomington NE. He was president of the Aponee State Bank and Secretary and Director of the Naponee Equity Exchange. He was well-though-of, a farmer and cattle feeder (Newspaper Nov 8, 1923) Frank didn't work much in the fields. His boys did mot of the farm work (a neighbor, Mrs. Nortopn's, recollections.)
He dided of appendicitis at Cambridge NE hospital (lived in Phillips Co., KS, adress Naponee). He wouldn't go to the doctor because Kate was close to the delivery of Mark and he didn't want to leave her alone. The funeral service was held there, then his body was taken to Dubois, KS to be interred.

OBITUARY: (Blooimington NE Advocate-Tribune, provided by Rena (Mrs. Duane Donovan): :The many friends of rickard Francis Donovan were pained to learn of his sudden death in the hospital in Cambridge NER on August 1, 1924, from an attack of appendicitis that was so bad that an operation could not relieve him.
The deceased was born at Pawnee City, NE Nov 17, 1871, and came with his parents to Phillips County, KS, where he resided until his death.
He was an active man, serving in the Kansas Legislature in 1916-17. He was County Treasurer of Phillips County for two terms. He was president of the Naponee NE State Bank and secretary and director of the Naponee Equity Exchange.
He was a kind husband and father, loved by a large circle of friends and neighbors. As was his request, the remains were brought to this city on Saturday morning and laid in state at the Cathiolic Rectory until Saturday afternoon when the services were held at the Sacred Heart Church, conducted by the Rev. Farris and the remains interred in DuBois Cemetery (West Cedar) north of Agra, Kansas.
A large concourse of friends and neighbors who were present at the services indicated the respect and admiration they had for the departed. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, two daughters, five sons, two step-children, a mother and a host of friends.
