Name:
Richard De Beauchamp, Knt., K.B., K.G., 13th Earl of Warwick, Herediary Sheriff of Worcestshire and Chamberlain of the Exchequer, son and heir, was born at Salwarpe, co. Worcester on 25 or 28 Jan. 1381/2. He served in Wales against Owen Glendower, defeating him near Machynlleth, co. Montgomery, and capturing his banner, in 1402 (dated by the appearance of Halley's comet at the time.)

He was present at the death-bed of King Henry V, 30-31 Aug. 1422, who made him an executor, and bequeathed to his care the education of his infant son, Henry VI.
From 1 June 1428 till 19 May 1436 Richard de Beauchamp was Tutor and Governor to the young King, whom he bore to Westminster Abbey for his Coronation on 6 Nov. 1429. On 16 July 1437 he was appointed lieutenant of France and Normandy, the most serious responsibility of his life, remaining in France thereafter. "Richard Beauchamp therl of Warwyk" died testate (P.C.C., 19 Rous) aged fifty-seven at Rouen on 30 Apr. 1439, and was buried in St. Mary's, Warwick, being afterwards removed to the Lady Chapel, where is a superb monument to him.

Richard married Elizabeth DE BERKELEY in Sept 1393. Elizabeth (daughter of Thomas DE BERKELEY and Margaret DE LISLE) was born about 1386 in Abergavenny, Wales; died on 28 Dec 1422; was buried in Kingswood Abbey, Gloustershire, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Richard married Isabel LE DESPENSER on 26 Nov 1423 in Hanley Castle, co. Worcester. Isabel (daughter of Thomas LE DESPENSER and Constance PLANTAGENET) was born on 26 Jul 1400 in Cardiff; died on 27 Dec 1439 in Friars Minoresses, London; was buried between 13 Jan 1439 and 1440 in Tewkesbury Abbey. Thomas De Beauchamp, K.G., Earl of Warwick de fact, Hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire, and Chamberlain of the Exchequer, younger son of Thomas de Beauchamp, of Elmley, co. Worcester, 11th Earl of Warwick, Baron of Salwape, co. Worcester, of Hanslope, co Buckingham, of Flamstead, co., Herford, and of Warwick, co. Warwick (of Magna Charta Surety descent and descendan of Charlemagne), by Katherine, daughter of Roger de Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, Baron of Wigmore, co. Hereford (descendant of Charlemagne).

He may have joined in the alleged plot of the Earls Gloucester and Arundel for which he was arrested on a charge of high treason, being banished to the Isle of Man for life until liberation on the accession of King Henry IV.

Thomas married Margaret DE FERRERS before Apr 1381. Margaret (daughter of William DE FERRERS and Margaret DE UFFORD) was born in Groby, England; died on 22 Jan 1406/7. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
