  1. 1.  Capt Elijah STEARNS was born on 24 Jan 1762 (son of Eliphalet STEARNS and Miss CLARK); died on 25 Jan 1823 in Dover, Vermont.

    Name:
    He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was known as Capt. Stearns. The following extract is from the Hist. of Cuyahoga Co., O.: "Eliphalet Stearns was a Capt. in the American forces during the Revolution. His son, Elijah Stearns, served with him and was promoted to a lieutenancy, in which capacity he rendered zealous services in the cause of liberty." He settled in Dover, Vt., but, in 1815, bought a large tract of land twelve miles west of Cleveland, Ohio, of which his sons took possession. He died, jan. 25, 1823, in Dover, Vt.

  1. 2.  Eliphalet STEARNS was born on 19 Aug 1736 (son of Rev. Ebenezer STEARNS and Thankful CLAPP); died on 3 Apr 1803.

    Name:
    Eliphalet Stearns b., Aug. 19, 1736, son of Rev. Ebenezer and Thankful (Clapp) Stearns, of Stoughton, Mass. some authorities state the eldest son of this family to be "Eliphaz," but Dr. Bond, with others, calls him Eliphalet. He md., about 1760, Miss Clark and moved to Vermont about 1771, where he d. April 3, 1803, aged 67 years; buried in Vermont. he had nine children.
