Name:
He and Lucy, who were third cousins, had eleven children at Aurora, New York. Henry's father was a lieutenant in the American Revolution in 1779. Ebenezer Avery was on the first Committee of Inspection for Groton in 1774, moderator in 1776 and one of a committee to collect clothing for the soldiers in 1781. His gravestone reads in part: "In Memory of Lieut Ebenezer Avery who fell Gloriously in Defence of Fort Griswold and American Freedom Sept 6th 1781..." Lt. Avery was an Original Member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati.
