    Wiliam H. Biles is profiled in "History of Washington County, Pennsylvania," 1926, by Earle Forrest, as a prominent citizen of Elco. After leaving school, he spent 12 years as a clerk in a store, then was a miner until 1918, when he opened a general store in Elco which, in 1926, was large and successful. he was also postmaster, since July 10, 1918. (One of his daughters was postmistress later, with part of the house where Iris and Harriett Ann still lived in 1997, serving as post office.) William was also a democrat and a Methodist; spent much time on the borough council, tax collecting, auditing, clerk of the council and in 1924, burgess of Roscoe. (source:Lynne Mayer)
